Filming for PREY Delayed because of Leg Injury

john simmActor John Simm, known for his role as the evil Master who obeyed neither time nor death in Dr. Who, is staring in a new television drama called PREY.  Unfortunately, a leg injury sustained on the set has delayed shooting.

The injury happened while Simm was climbing out of a river—take three—after being chased across a field by people accusing him of murdering his wife and child.  The accusations and escape were written into the script, but the tear was an unhappy deviation.

Simm says that he always preforms stretching exercises before shooting, because the show has a lot of physically demanding scenes.  "It was a very physical role - lots of running, hanging off bridges and climbing fences. Hard work but I loved it” said Simm.

While Simm’s incident shows that it is still possible, stretching before physical activity greatly reduces the risk of injury.  For proper stretching methods or treatment for activity-related injuries, call podiatrist Dr. Andrew H. Cohen, D.P.M., of the Mid-Michigan Foot and Ankle Center. Dr. Cohen will provide quality care for your foot and ankle needs.

Stretching Your Feet

Being the backbone of the body, the feet carry your entire weight and can easily become overexerted, causing cramps and pain. As with any body part, stretching your feet can serve many benefits. From increasing flexibility to even providing some pain relief, be sure to give your feet a stretch from time to time. This is especially important for athletes or anyone performing aerobic exercises, but anyone experiencing foot pain or is on their feet constantly should also engage in this practice.

Good ways to stretch your feet are:

  • Crossing one leg over the others and carefully pull your toes back. Do 10-20 repetitions and repeat the process for each foot
  • Face a wall with your arms out and hands flat against the wall. Step back with one foot and keep it flat on the floor while moving the other leg forward. Lean towards the wall until you feel a stretch. Hold for 30 seconds and perform 10 repetitions for each foot
  • Be sure not to overextend or push your limbs too hard or you could risk pulling or straining your muscle
