From routine checkups to treatments for surgery, Mid Michigan Foot and Ankle Centers and Diabetic Foot Centers of Mid Michigan are equipped to handle all your foot and ankle needs. To help you understand your options, we've included descriptions of some of our leading services on this page.

The Diabetic Foot

The Mid-Michigan Foot and Ankle Centers / Diabetic Foot Centers specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of foot problems in patients with diabetes. We developed these centers in response to the overwhelming need to address the multiple lower extremity complications that may occur including infections, ulcerations, gangrene, and in the most severe cases amputation of a toe, foot, or leg.

Management of foot and ankle problems for patients with diabetes is complex and requires multiple specialists working together. Success  can only result when there is an overall control of each component of their disease. That is why my staff and I work closely with each patient, their medical doctor, vascular surgeon, nurse educator, or home health care specialist in order to accomplish these goals.

Over the last 25 years our centers have treated thousands of patients for their acute and chronic wounds. Dr. Cohen is a Board Certified Wound Care Specialist and original faculty member of the Wound Healing Center at Covenant HealthCare. There he helped establish the  wound care protocols that continue to be used today. If you have a diabetic wound and need assistance, contact us at 989-790-8009 to make an appointment today. While we can never guarantee outcomes, we may be able to help.

The Diabetic Shoe Clinic

In March of 2002 in accordance with Medicare’s Diabetic Shoe Bill (1993) and in an effort to lower the amputation rate in the diabetic population of the Tri-City’s, Dr. Cohen opened, “The Diabetic Shoe Clinic”. Working with patients, pedorthotists, and shoe companies we have been able to evaluate, educate, custom fit, and identify the most appropriate shoe gear, inserts and braces for our diabetic patients that are at risk.

This has resulted in much better follow-up with our patients with a decrease in the number of recurrent wounds, quicker healing times and ultimately higher patient satisfaction.
